1 Corinthians

The book identified as 1st Corinthians is  really a letter penned by the apostle Paul, written to the followers of  Christ at Corinth. Corinth was one of the most important commercial centres in  Greece and a hotbed of different religions and cults.

Set against this background, the Christian believers at Corinth began to experience a number of problems, such as  the spread of immorality, marriage difficulties, serious divisions between  members, the role of women in the church and many other problems. Paul’s letter  was written to address these difficulties and provide practical advice and guidance to resolve these issues.

This letter to the Corinthians gives us  a very vivid picture into the internal workings of an early church and provides a challenge to us to strive for tolerance, harmony and peace whilst maintaining the ways of God.
