Ecclesiastes
In English, the title of this book means "Preacher". Most commentators suggest that Ecclesiastes was written by Solomon and this seems to be borne out by the first verse of the first chapter.
The book relates to us the bitter experiences and observations of the author’s life and it demonstrates the vanity or emptiness of everything "under the sun" (Ecclesiastes 1:3).
Through Solomon’s education in divine things, he points out that the solution to man’s vanity and “striving after the wind” by revealing that a full and contented life can only be found by striving after those things which are “above the sun” - the things concerning God and his purpose with mankind.
