Debate exists amongst Biblical scholars as to who the writer is of this letter, although it is generally accepted that it is the apostle Paul.
The letter is written to Jews who have adopted the teaching of Christ. Paul proves that the priesthood defined in the Old Testament was a "shadow" or type of the priestly work of Christ and that the legal sacrifices required under the Law of Moses prefigured the great and all-perfect sacrifice that the Lord Jesus Christ offered for himself and for us.
The letter also contains one of the well-known chapters of Biblical faith (Hebrews 11) which not only defines what faith is but also catalogues a list of great and worthy characters who displayed this attribute in their life, therefore standing them in good stead to inherit the kingdom of God when it is established.
