| Isaiah
This book, as is true of all the prophetical books, derives its name from the prophet whose messages it records.
Isaiah prophesied for over 60 years in the land of Judah, covering the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah.
The fundamental message of the book is twofold: judgment upon Judah for her sins (1-39), and comfort and hope for an exiled people (40-66). In these messages of encouragement are found some of the most graphic portrayals of the Lord Jesus Christ in the Old Testament, probably the most well-known being Isaiah 53 which speaks very vividly about the sufferings of Christ during his crucifixion.
