Jeremiah
Jeremiah was God’s spokesman during the decline and fall of the southern kingdom of Judah. Among the Prophets, Jeremiah appears to have had a more difficult task than most in standing alone to uphold God’s ways in the face of strong opposition and apostasy amongst his own people. One gets a real sense of Jeremiah’s frustration and despair when reading through the narrative of his prophecy.
Jeremiah announced the coming destruction of Judah, but he also looked beyond the problems and difficulties of his days to the time when God will save those who put their trust and confidence in Him (see for example Ch 33). There are therefore great lessons from Jeremiah’s words which we can take to ourselves for warning and also consolation and comfort.
